BACKDOOR COMES TO CALIFORNIA...surfer/ Wayne Kelly
Mike Weber, from webersphotography.com, took these insane photos at this rare spot somewhere North of Santa Cruz. I have surfed Backdoor, and if you could add some reef, this spot would be just as gnarly. You could still snap your neck here easily on the dry sandbar. I thought I might even break a board on quite a few wipeouts.
On a few previous days, fairly skilled surfers just didn't have what it took to make it.
Oily-glass conditions added to the mystique of this powerful bowl.
Stand up, no-grab Barrel? Doubt it!
